Characterized by:
1.Broad antimicrobial spectrum and strong efficacy in:
- Respiratory infections, including acute bacterial sinusitis and community-acquired pneumonia (effective against penicillin- and macrolide-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae).
- Urinary tract infections, including complicated infections, acute pyelonephritis, and acute bacterial prostatitis.
- Skin and soft tissue infections, including deep and complicated infections, due to its good tissue penetration.
2.Convenient dosing:
- 500–750 mg once daily (with or without food).
3.Shorter treatment duration:
- Due to its strong efficacy, the treatment duration is 5–7 days in most cases, which contributes to reducing bacterial resistance and side effects, improves patient satisfaction and adherence, and increases cure rates.
- Used under medical supervision.
- It is recommended to separate its administration from mineral cations such as calcium, magnesium, iron, and aluminum, as they reduce levofloxacin absorption (at least 2 hours).
- It should not be used during pregnancy unless the benefit outweighs the potential risk to the fetus.
- Breastfeeding is not recommended during the use of this medication, as it is excreted in breast milk.
